|Clarence Skiles, Jr., age 90, of Gilson, Illinois died at 4:57 P.M. on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Illinois.
He was born on June 13, 1922 in Beardstown, Illinois the son of Clarence and Hazel Guthrie Skiles, Sr. He married Ila W. Vance on October 16, 1954 in Meredosia, Illinois. She preceded him in death on October 29, 2002.
Surviving are his children: Fred Hacker of Alexis, Illinois; Jack Hacker of Alexis, Illinois; Carol (Don) Ash of Alexis, Illinois; and Patricia McDorman of Gilson, Illinois. Sixteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. One brother: Jim Skiles of Beardstown, Illinois and one sister: Mary (Skiles) Lung of Springfield, Illinois. Many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons: Gene and John; one brother: Bob; and two sisters: Virginia Anderson and Barbara Jean Skiles.
He served in the United States Navy as a seaman from 1942 - 1948. He was member of the Allen Park Baptist Church, Galesburg, Illinois and the Harry Philbald American Legion Post #749 of Knoxville, Illinois. He enjoyed fishing and farming his farm in rural Gilson, Illinois, he loved to work.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. Paul Lydic will officiate. Visitation will be held from 12:30 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. Interment will be at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Allen Park Baptist Church in Galesburg, Illinois.
