Johnson, Vera Ruth
Vera Ruth Upchurch Gray Johnson, 89, of Williamsfield, passed away at 2:50 AM, Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg.

Cremation has been accorded and memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, January 24 the Williamsfield United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Ptivate inurnment will be held at Williamsfield Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Williamsfield United Methodist Church, Williamsfield American Legion Auxiliary Unit 371, Spoon River Chapter, NSDAR or to the Guardian Angels. Rux Funeral Home in Williamsfield is in charge of arrangements.

She was born November 30, 1923 in Dudleyville, IL, the daughter of Marion Lafayette and Blanche Edna (Mills) Upchurch. She married Lester Ord Gray on May 29, 1942 in Warrenton, MO. She later married Julius Arthur "Buster" Johnson on August 8, 1965 and he preceded her in death on May 23, 1995. Survivors include her daughter, Judith Ann (Leo) Johnson of Williamsfield, two sons, Michael Ord Gray of Williamsfield and Floyd Kendall (Susie) Gray of Knoxville, grandchildren, Michael Ord Johnson of Woodbury, MN, Curtis Ray (Edie) Johnson of Broadlands, VA, Capt. Dustin Robert (Christine) Gray of the United States Army, Ft. Sill, Lawton, OK, Kassie Karssen, Katie Karssen and Kaleb Karssen, all of Knoxville, a great granddaughter, Danielle Lacee Hunter of Littleton, CO, a great grandson, Dustin Augustus Anong Gray of Lawton, OK, a sister, Elva Estelle Cobb of Lake City, FL, a sister-in-law, Martha Upchurch of Olathe, CO and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Clifford Marion Upchurch, Robert Mills Upchurch and Harry Lee Upchurch. Other special people in her life were Kiel Mackie, Linda Smith and her children, Rev. Doug, Mike and Jim Johnson and Kathy Bennett and their families and Tammy Navarro and her family.

Vera graduated from Greenville High School in Greenville, IL in 1941. She retired from Maytag Corp. in 1988 after 20 years of service. She was a member of the Williamsfield United Methodist Church, Williamsfield American Legion Auxiliary Unit 371 and was a charter member of the Spoon River Chapter, National Honor Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
