|George L. Waugh, Jr., age 65 of RR St. Augustine, died at 8:10 am Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at his home.
He was born on June 22, 1947 in Galesburg, the son of George L. and Madeline (Rood) Waugh. He married Teri Schisler on July 21, 1989 in Davenport, Iowa.
George is survived by his wife, Teri; his father, George L. Waugh, Sr. of Abingdon; his children, George L. (and Tonia) Waugh III of Galesburg, Harry (and Angela) Waugh of Abingdon, and Alicia Waugh of Killeen, Texas; his stepsons, Jay (and Crystal) Nelson of Colchester and Derrick Bradford of Moberly, Missouri; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren one sister, Pat Wolford of Knoxville; one brother, Mick (and Terri) Waugh of Kewanee; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, one daughter and two grandchildren.
George grew up in Abingdon and graduated from Abingdon High School. He served in the Army in the Vietnam War. He worked at the Admiral Factory in Galesburg and later owned and operated Waugh's Garage in Abingdon. He graduated from Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg. He last worked at the Illinois State Employment Service Office in Galesburg, retiring on November 30, 2010.
He was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church. He was a member and past commander of Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon, a member of the Knox County Veterans Assistance Committee, he was a member and the acting commander of the Galesburg VFW #2257 and he was a member of 40 & 8. He was also a member of the Illinois H2 Goldwing Road Riders Association. He enjoyed the hobbies of riding motorcycles, hunting, playing cards and he also enjoyed stock car and demo racing.
Funeral service and military rites will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Darryl McDaniel will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday at the chapel. Cremation will follow the services.
