Zimmerman, Dakota L.
Dakota L. Zimmerman, age 22, of Alexis, Illinois passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at his home.

Dakota was born December 4, 1991 in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Donald "Donnie" Zimmerman and Elaine McGahey. He graduated from Knoxville High School.

He was a CNA and worked for Walsh Terrace in Direct Service Personnel, Galesburg, Illinois. Dakota enjoyed his hobbies: motorcycle riding, hunting, playing video games, and drawing. He also enjoyed spending time with his brothers.

Dakota is survived by his mother and step-father; Elaine (Jon) McGahey of East Galesburg, Illinois and his father and step-mother; Donald "Donnie" (Chrissy Stone) Zimmerman; his siblings: Devan Zimmerman of Knoxville, Illinois and Jaxson McGahey of East Galesburg, Illinois; his grandparents: Joe (Sandi) McKee of Alexis, Illinois; Ronald (Dayna) Zimmerman of Dahinda, Illinois; Stephen (Jackie) Stone of Knoxville, Illinois and Brad (Brenda) McGahey of Alexis, Illinois. He is also survived by his great grandparents: Don (Mary) McKee of Abingdon, Illinois; Jean Huntley of Galesburg, Illinois, Mildred Hopping of Knoxville, Illinois and Marilyn (Floyd) Burniga Downing of Knoxville, Illinois. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles, cousins and his special Uncle Jason McKee. He was preceded in death by Carlos and Helen Zimmerman, Dayne Hopping and Gibert Saul.

Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville, IL.

A celebration of life will be held after the memorial service beginning at 3:00 P.M. at the Harry Philblad American Legion Post #749. Inurnment will take place at the Knoxville Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family or the Wounded Warrior Project.
