Johnson, Ada Murk Allen
Ada Murk Allen Johnson of 311 E. Simmons Street, Galesburg, IL passed away at 3:18 pm on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

She was born Dec. 15, 1922 to Otto E. and Gerda E (Ahlstrand) Murk on the family farm. She was the ninth of 12 children.

She married Marion E. Allen June 3, 1946 in the Abingdon Congregational Church. He preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 1978.

She married Harold (Jack) Johnson Sept. 20, 1980 in Missouri. He preceded her in death in Oct. 2003.

Surviving are three daughters; Judy and Charles Malley of Galesburg, Ginger and Richard Mason of Avon, and Jane and Terry Bradshaw of St. Augustine; one son, Gerry and Margie Allen of Abingdon, one step-daughter, Sharon and James Downey of Plattsburg, MO.; one step-son Mark and Barbara Johnson of Abingdon; 10 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one step-great grandchild. Three sisters also survive; Gladys Bassett of the Quad Cities, Ardith Tubbs of Abingdon and Doreen Sanford of Galesburg.

Ada was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, three sisters; Ethel, Margaret, Ruth and five brothers; Leonard, Oliver, Theodore, Edwin and Kenneth and one granddaughter, Melinda Allen.

Ada was a member of First Congregational Church UCC in Abingdon. She graduated from Abingdon High School.

She taught for a short time in a country school. She was employed by the Blue Bell factory in Abingdon. She was employed by Krogers as a relief manager during WWII working in Galesburg, Knoxville, Elmwood, Wyoming and Abingdon. She was a farm wife and spent many long hours working on the farm.

She enjoyed her family and gardening.

No funeral services are planned. Her body was donated to science. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

At Ada's request, memorials may be made to the Applacian Christian school for under-privileged children which she supported for years and may be mailed to Jane Bradshaw 116 State Route 41, St. Augustine, IL. 61474. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
