|Janice V. Cable, 87, of Galesburg died at 12:20 PM Monday February 8, 2010.
She was born December 6, 1922 in Ellisville, IL the daughter of George W. and Abbie Rose Markley. She married John F. Cable on December 19, 1945 in Canton, IL. He preceded her in death on August 25, 2008.
She is survived by two daughters Kathy (Mike) Wortman of Bryan, TX and Janet (Craig Colvin) Cable of Clinton, TN; one brother Turner Markley of Knoxville IL; one sister Roselee Soper of TX and three grandchildren Sara Daw, Abbie and Jacob Wortman. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and one sister.
She was a registered nurse, working as an industrial nurse for Butler Manufacturing and Midwest Manufacturing for over 20 years. She later worked for Burgland Drugs providing blood pressure checks. She graduated from Ellisville High school and Graham School of Nursing in Canton. Janice was a volunteer at Cottage Hospital. She also volunteered at the Galesburg Rescue Mission and Woman's Shelter. She was active there working the telethon. She was a member of the First Christian Church. She served as a deacon, was a member of the Ruth Circle and the Christian Woman's Fellowship. She took flying lessons and flew solo in 1940.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Saturday February 13, 2010 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Greg Fitch will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 AM Saturday at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
