Hudgel, Betty J.
Betty J. Hudgel, 83, of 261 N. Linwood Rd., Galesburg died at 6:50 a.m. Tuesday February 16, 2010 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

She was born April 21, 1926 in Galesburg the daughter of Claude and Hazel Dee Berry. Her aunt and uncle, Helen and Howard Wilson raised her. She married William B. Hudgel on October 10, 1948 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on October 9, 2001.

Betty and her later husband Bill were big followers of the Galesburg Silver Streaks and never missed a game, match or meet that their grandchildren participated in. Their family was the light of their lives. Betty and Bill loved to dance and enjoyed the dances at the Roof Top Gardens in their younger years.

She is survived by two daughters, Laura (John) Shay and Debra (Jim) Savory, both of Galesburg; a brother, Ronald Berry of Wisc.; one sister, Barbara (Gene) Hawkins of Galesburg; five grandchildren, Jason (Jana) Shay of Knoxville TN, Zachary Shay of Vicksburg, MS and Beau Shay of Clifton, NJ and Nathan and Carly Savory both of Chicago and two great grandchildren, Peija and Joah Shay of Knoxville TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, aunt and uncle who raised her, her husband, two brothers and one sister.

She worked for Dick Blick in advertising for 20 years, after retiring from there she went to work for J.C. Penney for a few years. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1944. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, February 19, 2010 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Marilyn Anell will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to7 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
