Bauer, Patrick C. "Pat"
Patrick C. "Pat" Bauer, 86, of 203 W. Latimer St., died at 5:50 pm Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at his home.

He was born on April 16, 1923 in Manito, the son of Clarence and Patricia (Galvin) Bauer. He married Geraldine M. "Jet" Billings on December 17, 1949 in Abingdon. She preceded him in death on August 30, 2003. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Pat is survived by his two sons, William L. (and Carolyn) Bauer of Glasford and Gerald P. (and Bienvenida) Bauer of Luqillo, Puerto Rico; his five grandchildren, Lindsay Bauer of Zanesfield, Ohio, Matthew Bauer of the US Army, Fort Carson, Colorado, Meaghan Bauer of St. Louis, Missouri, Nestor Bauer of the US Air Force, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Neysha Bauer of Orlando, Florida; his sister, Mary Urish of Green Valley.

He served in the Army from 1945 until 1947 and was stationed in Japan. He was a farmer for 50 years and started farming in the Manito and Spring Lake areas and then in the Abingdon area in 1948 until his retirement. He also did field work for the ASCS division of the US Department of Agriculture for 30 years. He was a feed salesman for the Abingdon Milling Company for 17 years.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a member and past commander of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon. He was a charter member of the Abingdon Community Festival Association and served on the board for several years.

Funeral mass will be at 10:00 am Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abingdon. Father William Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in the Abingdon Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #381. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm Tuesday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel, 206 N. Washington St. Abingdon, IL.

In honor of Pat, memorials may be made to the Abingdon Community Festival Association, American Legion Post #381 Firing Squad or to the Abingdon Historical Society. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
