Mead, Robert
Mr. Robert G. Mead, 86, of Galesburg, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at 9:05 am Saturday, February 5, 2011 at his home.

He was born August 24, 1924 in Galesburg the son of George and Maxine Underwood Mead. He married Lois Gullstrand on October 31, 1954 in Galesburg.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lois, two sons, Douglas Mead of Port Hueneme, Calif. a daughter, Jennifer (Tom) Hoben of Knoxville, Ill; two brothers, Jack (Darlene) Mead of Horn Lake, Miss. and Tom Mead of Galesburg; three sisters, Sue Hoskins of Galesburg, Mary Alice (Bud) Norris of Fair Oaks, Calif. and Barbara Crouse of Galesburg and two grandchildren Justin Hoben of Knoxville and Robert Knuth of Chicago, Ill. He is preceded in death by his parents, a son Robert Mead JR, and three brothers Richard Dick, George Jim and William Bill Mead.

Robert worked as a train master clerk for the former CB & Q and now Burlington Northern Railroad for over 43 years, retiring in 1984. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1943. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and spending time with his family.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. James Ecklund will officiate. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 pm Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Galesburg Railroad Museum, Galesburg Rescue Mission or to the American Red Cross.
