|Mr. Larry A. Pickrel, 65, of Galesburg, Ill. died at 10:23 a.m. Monday, February 07, 2011 in the Care Center of Abingdon.
He was born August 22, 1945 in Galesburg the son of Reese and Eileen Connor Pickrel. He married Geraldine Peck on May 30, 1998 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving are two brothers, Raymond (Dorothy) and Forrest (Joyce) Pickrel, both of Galesburg and one sister, Bernadine Stoneking of Galesburg. Also surviving is a step son, Brent (Marnie) Dugan of Avon, Ill., and three grandsons, Tyler, Jacob, and Lucas. A life long friend Chino Lopez also survives along with several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Larry worked for Gunther Construction for 6 years. He also had worked for Gunther Products for 13 years and Butler Manufacturing for several years. After Butler he taught welding at Carl Sandburg College for several years. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1964. He coached Legion Baseball and had played professional baseball for the Baltimore Orioles. He loved all sports, was an avid tennis player, and enjoyed bike riding.
Celebration of life will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday February 12, 2011 at the Galesburg American Legion. Memorial may be made to the American Legion Baseball Team or Hospice Compassus. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
