|Mildren A. Pugh, age 86, of Altona, Illinois, died at 12:47 P.M. on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Illinois. She was born on February 2, 1925 in Benton, Illinois, the daughter of Dwight and Hila Elliott Rice. She married Thomas A. Pugh on August 25, 1944 in Pinckneyville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on June 30, 1994.
Surviving are five daughters, Donna (Jim) Hoyle of Altona, Illinois, Bonnie Mowery of Roseville, Illinois, Christine (Dan) Brunswig of Altona, Illinois, Marie (Mike) Pacheco of Altona, Illinois and Cindy (Rich) Cantrell of Altona, Illinois; one son, Thomas (Deb) Pugh of Alexis, Illinois; grandchildren, Hollie Hoyle, Kathy Montgomery and Dawna Hoyle of Denver, Colorado, Constance (Bill) Robinson, James Hoyle Jr, Shana Simmons, Kristy (Dallas) Swanson and Kelly Scott of Altona, Illinois, Kraig Pugh of Wataga, Illinois and Carmen (Clint) James of Morton, Illinois; stepgrandchildren, Lisa Ryner of Alexis, Illinois, Brad Ryner of Phoenix, Arizona and Christopher Brunswig of Galesburg, Illinois; eleven great grandsons; twelve great granddaughters; four sisters, Margaret Wagner of Pana, Illinois, Dwighla Smith of Taylorville, Illinois, Stella Lou (Edward) Jania of Chicago, Illinois and Janis White of Decatur, Illinois; two brothers, George Dwayne (Ruby) Rice of Stonington, Illinois and Dale (Ellen) Rice of Taylorville, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two granddaughters and one great granddaughter.
She was raised and educated in Taylorville, Illinois. She was a homemaker and during World War II she worked building bombs in Illiopolis, Illinois and as a candy striper at the hospital in Taylorville, Illinois. She then worked as a cook at the Woodhull Plaza for 10 years and most recently as a laborer at Nypor Industries in Galesburg, Illinois. She was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Galesburg, Illinois and their Women's Organization. She enjoyed word puzzles and had a great sense of humor.
Cremation Rites will be accorded.
Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. at the Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home in Oneida, Illinois. Pastor Lonnie Shelden officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital or the First Church of the Nazarene in Galesburg, Illinois. Fellowship will be held after the Memorial Services at the First Church of the Nazarene, corner of Webster and Farnham, Galesburg, Illinois.
