Johnson, Emil
St. Augustine Emil E. Johnson, Sr., 79, of 372 IL Route 116 St. Augustine, died at 9:40 pm Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at his home.

He was born on December 4, 1931 in Abingdon, the son of Lessie Lee and Maudie Pansy (Postin) Johnson. He married Janice I. Wilson on September 19, 1951 in Monmouth. She preceded him in death on January 21, 2003.

He is survived by his seven children, Janet (and Dave, Sr.) Pringle of Abingdon, Emil E. (and Cynthia) Johnson, Jr. of RR Abingdon, Marty (and Don) Lewis of RR Abingdon, Beverly (and Todd) Fawcett of Galesburg, Peg (and Jim) Ferguson of Logansport, Indiana, Mark (and Theresa) Johnson of Tuckerman, Arkansas and Tony (and Joetta) Johnson of RR Abingdon; 24 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Wayne (and Lynn) Johnson of the state of Oregon, Lloyd (and Betty) Johnson of Oquawka, Ronald (and Teresa) Johnson of Avon, and Jim Johnson of Greenbush; two sisters, Maudie (and Luther) Riley of Abingdon and Florence (and Tom) White of Moline.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, three great-granddaughters, three sisters and five brothers.

Emil had lived in the Abingdon and St. Augustine areas all his life. He worked for 24 years at the Abingdon Pottery. He also farmed and was a self employed mechanic. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, watching NASCAR and he enjoyed the company of his dog, Tootsie.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Danny Hunt will officiate. Burial will follow in the Greenbush Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday at the chapel.
