Marshall, Thelma M.
Thelma M. Marshall, 82, of Wataga, died peacefully at 12:55 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2012 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center. She was surrounded with love by her family who will dearly miss her.

Thelma was born Thelma Marie Pate in Hills, Iowa to Edwin and Clara Pate on October 22, 1929. She married James W. Marshall on October 12, 1946.
Thelma is survived by her husband, Jim and their children, Joyce (and Martin) Setta of Rancho Cordova, Calif., James (and Mary) Marshall Jr. of Lake Okeechobee, Fla., Connie (and Richard) Knott of Wataga, David (and Vonna) Marshall of Wataga, and Roxanna (and Chuck) Guss of Aledo, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; two loving sons, Rodney Marshall and William Marshall; and two sisters, Mary and Dorothy.

Thelma had a gift for cooking that was known throughout the area. She started with Thelmas Café in Wataga. She and Jim then successfully owned and operated The Knotty Pine in Wataga for many years before retiring. Never ones to sit still long, they opened the Oneida Snack Shack. After another brief retirement, Jim and Thelma managed the Elks Club for many years and worked at ROWVA School District as a cook..

Thelma enjoyed spending time with her family. Many a summer day, she could be found sitting on her deck with her Cubbies on the radio while she watched her grandchildren, and later her great grandchildren, swimming, playing, and enjoying the treats Grandma always had available. She especially enjoyed Christmas with all the family gathered around.

Thelma was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Wataga.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, February 10, 2012 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation with private family graveside service on Monday in Wataga Cemetery. Rev. Robert Franek will officiate. A celebration of Thelmas incredible life will be held at the Elks Club in Galesburg beginning at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 13, 2012. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
