Vestal, Gilmer
Gilmer Vestal, 89, of Roseville, died February 15, 2012 at 12:30 am at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth, IL. He was born April 22, 1922 in Smithshire, IL to Charles and Martha Swartz Vestal. He married Mary Frazee November 16, 1945 she preceded him December 25, 1991.

He is survived by his Seven Children Gene Vestal of Galesburg; Sharon Bayne of Florida; Martha Blevins of Rockford; Sandy Vestal of Roseville; Maryann Dunbar of Florida; Cindy Watson of Roseville; and Gary Vestal of Roseville. Four Grandchildren and Three Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, wife, one daughter, four brothers and Three Sisters.

On July 12 1944, He was inducted into the Army at Ft. Sheridan, IL, and sent to Camp Roberts, California, for training. Five months later he was sent overseas and served in New Guinea, Philippine Islands, and Japan. During November 1945 he was sent back to the States to Jefferson Barracks, Mo, and later to Ft Leonard Wood Mo. He was awarded a Bronze Star. In his younger years he raised cattle and hogs. He was a farmer and a carpenter. He loved to Garden.

Graveside Service will be February 20, 2012 at 11:00 am at Center Grove Cemetery, Kirkwood IL. . Military Honors will be accorded at the Grave. Memorials may be made to the Disabled Veterans and or the Roseville area Ambulance. Online Condolences may be made at www.cormanmh.com Corman Memorial Home in Roseville in charge of arrangements.
