Carlson, H. Laverne
H. Laverne Carlson, 97, of 1823 Knox Highway 9, died Thursday, February 23, 2012 at his home.

He was born October 10, 1914 in North Henderson, Ill. the son of Herman and Florence Benson Carlson. He married Esther W. Nelson on March 22, 1940 in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on March 17, 2008.

He is survived by a son, Dale (and Mary) Carlson of rural Galesburg, six grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren, all of which he was very proud. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy A. Nelson; a son, Kenneth Carlson; a brother, Gale Carlson; and a sister, Ruby Andrews.

He was a farmer in the Galesburg area most of his life. He especially loved raising cattle. He was treasurer of Center Point School District, was a member of the Farm Bureau and of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was confirmed in the Swedish Lutheran Church of Henderson Grove, Ill. He attended Pleasant Grove School. He worked for Gale Products, Rowe Manufacturing, Midwest Manufacturing, and the CB&Q Railroad before he started farming. He took great pride and enjoyment in working on his antique cars and driving them in the local parades.

He was able to reside in his own home even during his last years. This was made possible by the wonderful care he received from six very special, compassionate ladies with loving hearts.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2012 in Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Dr. Tom Larsen will officiate. Visitation will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
