Litchfield, James H.
James H. Litchfield, 90, of Knoxville, Illinois passed away Saturday, February 02, 2013 at 12:10 PM at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

Jimmy was born October 19, 1922 in New Philadelphia, Illinois, the Son of William and Mazie (Hellyer) Litchfield. He married Virginia M. Johnson on August 10, 1947 in Macomb, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his wife on March 4, 2010 and by his parents.

Surviving are his five children: John William (Marilyn R.) Litchfield of Seymour, Illinois; James Bruce (Mary) Elliott-Litchfield of Champaign, Illinois; Joe Steven (Cynthia) Litchfield of Swedesburg, Iowa; Jay Robert (Beryl) Litchfield of Bangladesh; Joyce Ann (Thomas) Tournear of Dover, Illinois; and nine grandchildren: Kimberly (Travis) Brokate; Michael, Emily, Mark, Laura, David, and Elizabeth Litchfield; Sarah and Nathan Tournear.

Jim graduated from Adair High School and attended Western Illinois University. After serving his country as a member of The United States Navy, Jim earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Education at the University of Illinois.

He taught vocational agriculture at Alexis High School for two years. Jim then started the vocational agriculture program at Knoxville High School. He taught there and advised the FFA Chapter for 31 years. After retiring, he taught part-time at Carl Sandburg College.

Jim farmed throughout his life, including raising hogs, cattle, and sheep and selling seed corn and beans during his retirement years.

Jim was awarded the Honorary American Farmer Degree from the Future Farmers of America. He was a member of the University of Illinois College of Agriculture Alumni Board and was active in the Knoxville United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 9, 2013 from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville, Illinois. The funeral service will take place on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. Dan Lybarger will be officiating. Interment will be at the Knoxville Cemetery. Memorial donations may be left to the United Methodist Church in Knoxville. Online condolences can be made at www.hurd-hendricksfuneralhome.com
