His family was notable dairy farmers in the area for many years. He entered Duroc hogs at the Illinois State Fair, where Mahogany received seven first places out of eight drives. He then attended the University of Illinois. Wayne opened a feed and fertilizer store in Cameron, Ill. in 1948. He operated the store for 18 years until a fire destroyed the business. Wayne married Elaine Irish on December 23, 1951. Wayne started working for Amtrak in 1972, where he worked until 1991. He loved baseball (he was a catcher and a great homerun hitter) and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. Wayne enjoyed watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball, fishing, bird watching, gardening, and animals, especially his Great Pyrenees, Bella.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Elaine; daughter, Marte Glass of Galesburg; son, Mack (Bonnie) Glass of Galesburg; son, Jeff (Nancy) Glass of Rock Island, Ill.; daughter, Jolene Reddy of Springfield, Ill.; daughter, Janine Glass of Galesburg; sisters, Lillian (Buddy) Pogue of Galesburg, Hazel (Bob) Lichty of Lakewood, Colo., and Joyce Coffman of Galesburg; and grandchildren, Sheena (David) Leonard, Amelia Glass, Ravi Reddy, Lily Anderson, and Justin Glass. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Tanner and Mary Glass; two infant sisters; his brother and sister-in-law, Mack and Sally Glass; his brother-in-law, T.J. Coffman; and his son-in-law, Anji Reddy.

Wayne was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother and was a friend to all.
