|Richard Walker Staley, 85, of Monmouth died at 2:45 PM Wed. March 3, 2010 at the Monmouth Nursing Home.
He was born July 26, 1924 in Smithshire, IL the son of Earl D. and Ester (Walker) Staley. After his mother died Richard was raised by his Uncle Charles and Aunt Bessie (Walker) Rhinehart. He attended Hornbeck country school and graduated from Kirkwood High School.
Richard served in World War II in the Army Air Corp of Peoria as a clerk and AAF Supply Technician at McClellean Field, Sacramento, CA.
He worked at the Iowa Ordinance Plant and later at Alton Box in Galesburg.
Richard was a lifelong member and elder of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Kirkwood. His favorite Bible verse was Philippians 3:12. He enjoyed traveling, flower gardening, sports and country western music. He was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan.
Surviving family include his cousins, Ellen Hanna of Monmouth and Jane Rhinehart of Havana along with their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Sat. March 6, 2010 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth with Rev. Dottie Halverson of the Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery, Kirkwood. Friends may call Saturday at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth where his family will be present from 1:00-2:00 PM.
