Henrikson, Vernon J.
Vernon J. Henrikson , 89, of Woodhull, IL. died Thursday March 11, 2010 in his home.

Services are 2:00 PM Monday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Woodhull. Private Burial will be at a later date. Visitation is from 2-6PM Sunday at the Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Woodhull where Masonic services will be conducted at 6:00 PM.

Memorials may be left to Bethany Lutheran Church, Tri-County Ambulance or Oxford Twsp. Fire Dept. Online condolences can be made at www.petersonwallinknox.com.

He was born December 10, 1920 in Lynn Center, Il. A son of Arvid and Myrtle Skallberg Henrikson. He attended the local schools and married Elizabeth "Betty Gene" Anderson June 14, 1941 in Macon, MO.

Vernon was employed as a machinist/tool maker at various Quad City area farm manufacturers retiring from John Deere Plow and Planter in 1983 where he helped organize and was the first president of the UAW. He farmed for many years in the New Windsor and Woodhull areas and sold Dekalb seed corn for 26 years. He also owned and operated the Woodhull Car Wash for many years.

He felt it a civic duty to serve in the community and did so as a Clover Twsp. Trustee, Woodhull Town Board member and Clover Twsp volunteer fireman. Other memberships include Bethany Lutheran Church, Moline Viking Club and the Rio Masonic Lodge #685 where he was an active Mason for over 63 years.

He enjoyed his family and friends, playing cards, golfing, gardening, camping, wintering in Arizona and fixing things.

Survivors include his wife, Betty, 2 daughters, Connie (Jake) Tisdale of Alpha, Il, Diane (Chuck) Lindsey of Rio, Il, 3 sons, Don (Pat) Henrikson of Oak Run, Il Brent (Keri) Henrikson of Woodhull, Brad (Lori) Henrikson of Huntsville, AL, 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandsons, a sister, Geraldine Bubon of Alpha, a brother Maynard Henrikson of Mesa, AZ and several nieces and nephews.

His parents, 1 brother and a great grandson preceded him in death.
