Melton, Mary P.
Mary P. Melton, 94, of 403 S. Stockdale Lane, Abingdon, died at 1:15 pm Friday, March 12, 2010 at the Care Center of Abingdon.

She was born on February 6, 1916 in Prairie City to Harry and Lillian May (Taft) McCone. After her mother's death, Mary was raised by her father Harry and Mabel McCone. She married E. Wayne Melton on April 2, 1932 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on September 20, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, James McCone.

Mary is survived by two sons, Charles LeRoy (and Helen) Melton of Abingdon and Jerry Wayne (and Colleen) Melton of Abingdon; one daughter, Beverly Jean Hensley of Galesburg; 9 grandchildren, Debbie (and Rich) Shugart, Roxanne Courson, Lawanna (and Mike) Westlake, LaDonna (and Tolan) Pica, Vicki (and Doug) Williams, Sheryl (and Rodney) Nyman, Chris (and Bruce) Toal, Mark Melton, and Michele (and Scott) Digmann; 12 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren; and one brother Harold (and Jeanette) McCone of Long Beach, Cal.

She was a lifelong homemaker. She also helped her husband on the farm for many years southeast of Abingdon until they retired in 1975. She wintered in Mission, Texas for many years. She was of the Christian faith. She was member of the Indian Point Card Club and she loved to go camping.

Graveside service will be at 11:00 am Monday, March 15, 2010 at the Abingdon Cemetery. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
