|Ruby Fern Downard, 90, Knoxville, formerly of Galesburg, died at 9:15 a.m., Saturday, March 13, 2010 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born July 18, 1919 in Hermon, Ill., the daughter of William and Orpha Hickle Teel. She married Chester W. Downard on February 17, 1936 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on February 7, 1987.
She is survived by nine children, Donna (and Lloyd) Anderson of Galva, Ill., Dorothy (and Max) McMeen of Milan, Ill., Bud (and Barbara) Downard of Cookson, Okla., Mary Ann (and Robert) Brittingham of Galesburg, Grace (and Bill) Bates of Dahinda, Ill., Alice (and Richard) Clark of Galesburg, Gary (and Virginia) Downard of Galesburg, Cheryl (and Robert) Yerkey of Alexis, Ill., and Randy (and Kathy) Downard of Rio, Ill., 35 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.
Fern was a homemaker. She enjoyed playing bingo, working crossword puzzles, and watching soap operas and baseball games.
Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2010 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. David Parker will officiate. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Knoxville Cemetery.
