Betty J. Elledge, 87, 608 North G St., Monmouth, formerly of Galesburg, died at 8:53 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2010 in Seminary Manor.
She was born July 26, 1922 in Mystic, Iowa, the daughter of William and Stella Booth Betson. She married William E. Briggs, Jr. in 1939. She later married Ernest L. Elledge on July 26, 1957 in Knoxville. He preceded her in death on November 30, 2000.
She is survived by three sons, Jim (and Sarah) Briggs, William (and Gwen) Briggs, and Mike (and Sue) Briggs, all of Monmouth, a step daughter, Betty D. (and Roger) Kniss of Bartonville, Ill., five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, a step son, Robert Elledge, four brothers, and three sisters.
Betty was an assembler at the former Maytag Corporation for 30 years, retiring in 1985. She graduated from Galesburg High School. Betty taught ceramics and loved to sew. She especially loved and enjoyed her family and her dog, Cody.
Cremation will be accorded. Graveside service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday in Knoxville Cemetery. Rev. Milton Marquith will officiate. There will be no visitation.
