|Doris J. Scannell, a resident of Alpha, IL, died Wednesday March 24, 2010 at Manor Care in Davenport, Iowa.
Services are 10:30 AM Monday at St. John's Catholic Church in Woodhull where she was a member. Burial is in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation is from 2-4 PM Sunday at Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Alpha where a Rosary will be recited at 4:00 PM. Memorials may be left to Tri-County Ambulance and online condolences can be made at www.petersonwallinknox.com.
Doris was born on June 15 in Wellsburg, Iowa a daughter of Remmer and Hazel Prim Paterna. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines, Ia. She married Joseph Johnson in April of 1949 and they were blessed with a daughter that arrived also on June 15. Joe died in December of 1957. She then married William Francis Scannell in 1958. He died in 1999.
Doris was employed as a Secretary for many years. She worked first in the engineering department for the State of Iowa and then went to Washington D.C. during the War. Doris was secretary for her husband at Johnson Engineering and Construction and then worked at the Arsenal retiring in 1980.
She loved to travel and especially enjoyed her trips to Ireland and the European Countries.
Survivors include her daughter Barbara (Cleve) Ray of Davenport, Ia, 2 step-children Patricia Lorfeld of Davenport, William George "Mike" Scannell of Tacoma, WA, 2 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 11 step-great grandchildren and a sister, Ann Cocking of Des Moines, Iowa.
Her parents and husbands preceded her in death.
