Doris M. Ray, 76, of 275 E. Carl Sandburg Dr. Galesburg, IL died 11:20 PM Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Marigold Health Care Center, Galesburg.
She was born October 7, 1933 in Galesburg to John and Sarah Pauline Riley McGahey. She married Howard Hillier, Sr. in 1950, later she married Arnold Ray in 1971. They are both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her long time companion, Lawrence E. Cook, September 11, 2009.
She is survived by 2 sons John (and Angie) Hillier of Knoxville and Howard Hillier Jr. of Illinois, 2 daughters Gloria Laird of California and Polly (and Gary) Beams of Galesburg, 2 brothers Jay McGahey and John McGahey both of Galesburg, 5 sisters Shirley Edwards, Birdie (and Bill) Lietsch, Patsy Mitchell, Bette (and Butch) Smith and Mary (and Bill) Galloway, 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law Ernest Laird, daughter-in-law Maureen Hillier, a brother Fred McGahey, and 2 sisters Isabell Gibbs and Clarcey White.
Doris was a homemaker. She was a member of Galesburg Chapter Order of Eastern Star. She loved bingo and collecting pig figurines.
Private graveside service will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 1:00 - 3:00 PM Saturday March 6, 2010 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation.
