|William "Bill" Spencer, age 80, of the Quad Cities, previously of Galesburg and Bloomington-Normal, passed away on Sunday March 6, 2011 at Trinity Hospital, Rock Island, IL.
Bill, son of William and Leona Sloan Spencer was born June 6, 1930 in Galesburg. He married Patricia Bellinger on June 11, 1950. They had been married 58 years when she passed away in 2008.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Deb (Bill) Gray of Coal Valley, Ill., grandson, Matt Gray of Bettendorf, Iowa, sister, Helen Brackett of Chillicothe, Ill., sister-in-law, Carol Hinkson of Gainsville, Fla., niece, Amy (Ryan) McKenna, nephew, Chad Hinkson, and great niece, Joy McKenna. He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter, Suzanne, parents, aunts, and uncles.
Bill worked for Admiral Corp. in Galesburg, transferring to Bloomington in 1960. After a long career with Admiral, he assumed the position of Director of Purchasing for Bro-Menn Hospital in Bloomington where he retired. Bill was a long time member of the Sound of Illinois Barbershop Chorus and numerous quartets. Bill, with Pat at his side, participated in many chorus activities including Singing Valentines and The Brotherhood Tree. Bill enjoyed playing golf, meeting people, but most importantly his family.
Funeral services will at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday March 9, 2011 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Daniel Siems officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
