Stringfield, Pauline
Abingdon Pauline Lynch Stringfield, 95, of Abingdon, passed away at 12:15 am Monday, March 14, 2011 at the Care Center of Abingdon. She had resided there for the past five years and had previously lived at Wesley Village in Macomb for six years and in Pleasant Plains for fifty-six years.

She was born March 11, 1916, in Louisville, Kentucky to John Luther and Sadie (Dennison) Lynch. She married Kenneth Charles Stringfield on March 7, 1942 in Bowling Green, Missouri. He preceded her in death on November 27, 1957.

Pauline is survived by her two daughters, Barbara K. (and Michael) Link of Abingdon and Carolyn A. (and Harrison) Lee of Gilbert, Arizona; her three grandsons, Kenneth C. Dunham of Mesa, Arizona, Christopher N. (and Nickie) Dunham of Chandler, Arizona and Jason C. (and Erin) Link of Bloomington; her step-granddaughter, Jennifer K. (and Christopher Ramirez) Link of New York City; and her five great-grandchildren, Zachary and Garrett Dunham of Tempe, Arizona, and Skylar-Ann and Jakob Dunham of Chandler, Arizona, Lucie Gray Ramirez of New York City; her half-sister, Irene Frakes of Springfield; her sister-in-law, Diane Lynch of Taylorville; and several nephews and nieces.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Joe E. Lynch and Robert L. Lynch and her sister, Ada L. Pence.

Pauline grew up in the Dawson area and attended a three-year high school near Riverton. She completed her fourth year at Williamsville High School, graduating in 1933. She attended Illinois State Normal University for two years and in 1935, at the age of nineteen, she began her thirty-one year teaching career in a one-room school in Champaign County. Prior to her marriage, she also taught at Dawson Grade School and Correll School. She returned to teaching in 1955 in Pleasant Plains Community Unit District 8 and retired from that district in 1978. She completed her B.S. in Education from Illinois State University in 1956 and her M.S. in Education from Millikin University in 1960. She also completed many hours of post-graduate work during her years of teaching.

Pauline was a longtime member of the Peter Cartwright United Methodist Church in Pleasant Plains and had been a Sunday school teacher when her daughters were young. Before her husbands death, she helped him on their dairy farm east of Pleasant Plains and enjoyed her life as a farm wife. She also enjoyed sewing, baking, reading, keeping up with current events, feeding and watching the birds, and working crossword puzzles. .

Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Friday, March 18, 2011 at the Peter Cartwright United Methodist Church in Pleasant Plains. Rev. Paul Dinges and Rev. Patricia Hutton will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm Thursday, March 17, 2011 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel, 206 N. Washington St., Abingdon, Illinois and one before the service on Friday at the church in Pleasant Plains.
