VanVelsor, Edna Mae
St. Augustine Edna Mae VanVelsor, 89, of St. Augustine, died at 12:25 am Monday, March 14, 2011 at the home of her son in Galesburg.

She was born on June 27, 1921 in Greenbush in Warren County, the daughter of Martie and Beulah (Simmons) Caves. She married Paul E. Buck VanVelsor on July 4, 1942 in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on February 25, 1991. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Cleta Rogers and Norma Floyd.

Edna is survived by her son, Larry (and Kathy) VanVelsor of Galesburg; two grandsons, Todd (and Gwen) VanVelsor and Scott and (Chris) VanVelsor all of Galesburg; five great grandchildren, Jaque (and Matt) Gohlinghorst, Jessica, Jacob, Riley and Katie VanVelsor; three brothers, James M. Caves of Florida, Ernest E. Caves of Galesburg and Donald L. Caves of Knoxville; one sister, Mable LeFevre of Elmhurst, Ill.

She graduated from Avon High School in 1940. She had lived in St. Augustine for over 60 years. She was a member of the St. Augustine Christian Church and served as a trustee, deacon, secretary-treasurer for 55 years. She worked at the Blue Bell Factory in Abingdon, at Ermas Café at corner of Route 116 & Route 41 and as a cook at the Avon school district for 26 years. She also volunteered at the Care Center of Abingdon and the Roseville Nursing Home.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, March 17, 2011 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Brother Dan McGrew will officiate. Burial will follow in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday at the chapel.
