Linman, Gerald "Jerry"
Gerald Vincent Jerry Linman, 88, of Hampton, Illinois formerly of Monmouth died at 7:00 A.M. Sunday, March 13, 2011 at the Lighthouse Care Center in Silvis, IL.

He was born January 28, 1923 in Monmouth, Illinois the son of Salmer and Minnie (Palmberg) Linman. He was reared and educated in Monmouth graduating from Monmouth High School in 1940. Jerry was on the basketball and track teams throughout his high school career, lettering in both sports. During his senior year, Jerry had the distinction of being in the starting line-up for the basketball team the year the current high school gymnasium opened. They also defeated Galesburg, 24-20, that year!

Jerry married Jean I. Quammen in Monmouth on December 27, 1947. She died March 20, 1980. He later married Wilma Carlson in Moline, Illinois on June 27, 1981 and she survives.

Jerry worked his entire life in Monmouth. In his early days, he worked in retail sales at Gambles, Pattons True Value, and Bowman Shoes. He then served as a bookkeeper for Bowman Shoes, as Production & Credit Manager for Western Stoneware and finally in the office of Wilson Foods, retiring in 1985. Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family, was an active Church member and an avid sports fan. Well into his young adult years Jerry played organized baseball on many Monmouth teams where he was affectionately known as Pee Wee. His love for playing baseball carried over into a life long passion for his beloved Chicago Cubs.

Jerry was a former member of the First Lutheran Church of Monmouth and current member of the First Lutheran Church in Moline, IL. He was also a member of the Vikings Club in Moline.

Jerry served with the Army Air Corps as a Sergeant during World War II from January 1943 to November 1945.

Surviving are his wife, Wilma Linman of Hampton, Illinois; 2 sons, Jeffrey V. Linman and his wife, Patti, of Orlando, FL and Jonathan W. Linman and his wife, Jennifer, of New York, NY; 3 grandchildren, Joshua, Sarah, and Nathan, 1 sister, Eleanor Braman, of Ft. Atkinson, WI; numerous nieces and nephews, 2 step-children, and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren..

His parents, first wife, one brother, Robert Linman, and one sister, Evelyn (Linman) Rosander, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 18th at the First Lutheran Church in Monmouth with the Rev. Keith Killinger officiating. Burial will be in Monmouth Cemetery. A visitation with the family will be held at the church from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. just prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jerrys memory to either First Lutheran Church in Monmouth or the Alzheimers Association. Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel in Monmouth is coordinating funeral arrangements. Online condolences may be left at hooverhall.com.
