Way, Eugene
Eugene M. Way, 81, of 300 W. Memorial Dr., Abingdon, died at 9:05 pm Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at his home.

He was born on July 10, 1929 in Abingdon, the son of Forrest M. and Sarah Mae (Thurman) Way. He married Ruby I. Olomon on August 10, 1951 in Abingdon.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Ruby; three sons, David (and Diane) Way of Pella, Iowa, Randy (and Patti) Way of Peoria and Daniel (and Cathy) Way of Knoxville; one daughter, Rhonda (and Ed) Kunkle of Prairie City; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Bryon (and Kathy) Way of Galesburg; two sisters, Shirley (and Gene) Overcash of London Mills and Carolyn Jackson of Canton, Texas.

He served in the Army and Army Reserves for thirty years retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. He worked at the strip mines near Middlegrove, retiring in 1983. He also farmed. He had lived in the Maquon, Gilson, Avon and Abingdon areas most of his life.

Gene was a Mason for fifty-three years with the Maquon Masonic Lodge #530. He was a member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon and the VFW Post #1422 in Bushnell.

He liked to ride his motorcycle and on the farm he enjoyed his tractors. He was a good grandpa and enjoyed spending time with his grandkids.

Cremation will be accorded. The family will receive friends from 9:00 am to 11:00 am Monday, April 4, 2011 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel followed by a prayer service led by Mrs. Eleanor Landon. Military Rites will be conducted by the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. Private burial will be held at a later date in the Abingdon Cemetery.
