|Janice Kay Holmes, age 68 of Dahinda, Illinois died at 2:46 PM on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, Illinois.
She was born on February 10, 1944 in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of DeWayne and Katherine Gustafson Holmes.
Surviving are two brothers: Richard (Gayla) Holmes, and Roger "Pete" (Diane) Holmes, both of Oneida, Illinois. One sister, Nancy (Mark) Anderson of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dear friend, Kathie (Gary) Lincoln of Altona, Illinois. One aunt, Vivian Hammerberg of Moline, Illinois. Five nephews, Bryan (Laura) Holmes of Washington, Illinois, Tim Holmes of Oneida, Illinois; Peter (Maria) Anderson of Shakopee, Minnesota; Thomas (Beckie) Anderson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Stephen Anderson of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Three nieces, Laura (Jerod) Gross of Roanoke, Illinois; Jennifer (Joel) Johnson of Alexis, Illinois; and Elizabeth (Shane) Tucker of Streator, Illinois. Two step-nephews and one step-niece. Four great-nephews and four great-nieces. Seven step great-nieces and great-nephews. And Eleven cousins who live throughout the United States. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She graduated from ROVA High School in Oneida, Illinois, and Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. She taught third grade at Logan Elementary School in Moline, Illinois, for 34 years before retiring in 2000. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Wataga, Illinois and Faith Lutheran Church in Moline, Illinois. She also belonged to numerous groups through the years, including the Knox County Farm Bureau Prime Timers; Knox County Association for Home and Community Education (Sparta); King's Daughters; Tuscarora Club; Oak Run's Garden Club, Ladies Bible Study and Safety Committee; The Faith Lutheran Church (Wataga) Choir, Church Council, and WELCA; Red Hats; Oneida Woman's Club; Knox County Retired Teachers; IRTA Blackhawk Unit; Faith Lutheran Church (Moline) WELCA; Representative for the Lutheran Social Services of Illinois; and NACTA John Deer Award. But most of all, she was a thoughtful and generous daughter, sister, niece, aunt cousin and friend who will be greatly missed.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 9, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Faith Lutheran Church in Wataga, Illinois. Rev. Robert Franek officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Oneida, Illinois. Burial will be in the Oneida Cemetery Oneida, Illinois. Memorials to the Faith Lutheran Church in Wataga, Illinois, or any of the organizations she belonged to or charity of the donor's choice.
