Johnson, Valeta Arlene
Valeta Arlene "Red" Johnson, 87, of Roseville, IL, went on to her reward on Thursday March 8, 2012, 3:34 pm at the Roseville Rehab and Health Care Center. She was born near Allerton, IA on June 21, 1924 the daughter of Harold Elwood and Frederica Ann Smith Richards. On June 24 1948 she married Dale Eugene Johnson in Lawrence, KS, they were married 60 years. They resided in rural Smithshire until they moved to Roseville in 1988. He passed away in 2009.

She leaves to mourn her loss one son Robert (Janis) Johnson of Roseville, IL and one daughter Marilou Johnson Murphy (Tim) of Galesburg, IL; four grandchildren Melissa Johnson of Penacook, New Hampshire, Brian (Amy) Johnson of Smithshire, IL, Joe (Cassie) Schisler and Jon (Amanda Parkins) Schisler both of Roseville, IL, two step grandchildren Taryn (Brad) Cirks of Rock Island, IL and Dr. Tom (Jenny) Murphy of Pontiac; eight great grandchildren, Tristin, Brynn, Ellison, and Brecken Johnson of Smithshire, IL, Callie Jo, Cadence, Adyson and Jada Schisler of Roseville, IL, three step grandchildren Jayson Johnson and Kaden Cirks of Rock Island and TJ Murphy of Pontiac. Her brothers John and Olen Richards of Burlington, IA and sisters Lelah Wood of Overland Park, KS and Frances Collins of Pataskala, OH and all their spouses.

She grew up in Creston, IA and the family later moved to Burlington, IA. She worked at Gambles in Monmouth, as a cook at Roseville Elementary School and as a seamstress at Smolers in Monmouth. She was of Nazarene faith. She enjoyed embroidery, crochet, crossword puzzles, country music, antiques, and reading. She always had a hug and "I love you" whenever parting. She had a unique sense of humor.

Graveside service will be Tuesday March 13, 2012, 11:00 am at the Roseville Mausoleum. Dr. Rev. Michael Mayfield will officiate. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the beauty shop at Roseville Rehab or the Roseville Library. Please sign the online guestbook at www.cormanmh.com.
