Watson, John William
John William Watson, 92, of Preemption, IL, passed away Tuesday March 13, 2012 at the Monmouth Nursing Home.

He was born June 23, 1919 in Roseville, IL the son of Tracy Ivan and Lula Fisher Watson. He married C. Maxine Wallis on July 3, 1949 at the Roseville United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years of Preemption, IL; five children John W. (Cindy) Watson III of Roseville, IL, Dr. Patricia J. (Edward) Slininger of Metamora, IL, James W. (Jackie) Watson of Monmouth, IL, Eric T. (Lena) Watson of Huston, TX, and Jane L. Watson of Brooklyn, NY; 4 grandchildren Lucille and Marilyn Slininger, Tara Watson and Benjamin Watson. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister (Louise).

He graduated from Roseville High School in 1937. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps April 1, 1941 and served overseas until the end of WWII as an aircraft radio repairman. He was employed by the Rock Island Arsenal from April 1949 to October 2007-58 years. He was an avid amateur radio operator since 1937 along with two high school buddies Kirk Sanderson and George Kirkpatrick who have continued to keep a weekly schedule throughout the years W9MGI. John also enjoyed fishing.

Funeral service will be Saturday March 17, 2012; 2:00 pm at the Corman Memorial Home Roseville, IL. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Roseville Cemetery, Roseville, IL. Memorials may be made to the Preemption United Methodist Church or Roseville American Legion.
