|Stewart P. Anderson, 87, of Galesburg, Ill. died 11:05 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Marigold Health Care Center.
He was born July 22, 1924 in Kewanee, Ill. the son of Rudolph W. and Marie E. Magnuson Anderson. He married Mildred R. Mohler on August 10, 1943 in San Diego, Calif. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, David S. Anderson of Santa Barbara, Calif.; a daughter, Marilee A. (John) Bielski of Sugar Grove, Ill.; two grandsons, Jason Anderson and John (Erin) Bielski and two great granddaughters, Jacqueline and Zionrae Anderson. He is preceded in death by two brothers.
He served in the Marine Corps as Sgt. stationed in the South Pacific for 34 months during World War II.
Stewart worked as a switchman for Burlington Northern Santa Fe for 43 years, retiring in 1985. He graduated from Galva High School in 1942. He was a member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285, the Moose Lodge #880 and the United Transportation Union. Stewart was a participant on the "Honor Flight" to Washington D.C. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Sarah Parker will officiate. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 am Saturday at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.
