|Robert H. Diefendorf, 90, of Galesburg passed away at 8:55 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2012 in Heartland Health Care Center.
He was born February 25, 1922 at home in Galesburg the son of Harry O. and Bessie L. Dyer Diefendorf. He married Virginia Stromquist on February 11, 1972 in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on June 30, 2008.
He is survived by two sons, David R. (Jodi) Diefendorf and Michael (Vicki) Diefendorf, both of Galesburg and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Raymond; and a sister, Dorothy (George) Shea.
Robert graduated from Galesburg High School in 1940. In 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps, where he attended mechanics school. He was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Sgt.
He worked as a carman and car inspector for the C.B. & Q., then Burlington Northern Railroad for 30 years, retiring on June 1, 1983. He was a member and past Master of the Vesper Masonic Lodge #584 and member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. He was an active member of the East Main Congregational United Church of Christ.
Bob enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking, and watching the Cubs.
Cremation will be accorded. Memorial service will be announced at a later date. Memorials may be made to the East Main Congregational United Church of Christ.
