|Norman R. Bleddoe, 75, of Galesburg went home to be with His Lord surrounded by his family at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2012 in Cottage Hospital.
He was born November 1, 1936 in Galesburg, Ill. the son of Clem R. and Nellie Storey Bledsoe. He married Joy Mitchell on September 8, 1962 in Oneida, Ill.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 49 years and his children, Mitchell (Michelle) Bledsoe of Normal, Ill., Curtis (Tanya) Bledsoe of Galesburg, James (Tricia) Bledsoe of Wataga, Ill., and Laura (Todd) Anderson of Galesburg; and 13 grandchildren who were the love of his life. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister and three brothers.
He served in the Army Reserves as sergeant for 6 years.
Norman worked in furniture sales for over 45 years, owning and operating the Carriage House Furniture Store. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1955. He was a member of the Downtown Business Association Board and past member of the Galesburg Exchange Club. He also served on the City Planning Commission. He served on the Class of 1955 Committee. Norman was a former deacon and active member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2012 in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Rev. Lee Johnson and Rev. Kirk Kendall will officiate. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church or the Galesburg Rescue Mission.
