|Larry Lee Bivens, 76, of Galesburg, died at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at his home.
He was born January 30, 1936 in Alexis, Ill. the son of Alfred and Zelma Decker Bivens.
He is survived by his son, Donald Bivens and one daughter, Stephanie Lynn Bivens, both of Shreveport, La.; two brothers, James (Sandy) Bivens of Milan, Ill. and William Bivens of Galesburg; four sisters, Beverly Hays of Deerfield, Fla., Carol Lee and Janet (Wayne) Sandora, both of Springville, Tenn., and Kathy Bivens of Galesburg; five granddaughters and several great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Donna Bivens in 1977 and a brother, Robert Bivens in 1975.
He served in the Air Force from 1953-1960 serving in England and other countries. He attended school in Muscatine and received his GED while serving in the Air Force. Larry worked for Gould Battery in Shreveport, La. as an assembler. He has lived in Galesburg the past 10 years. He was a past member of the Masonic Lodge in Shreveport. Larry enjoyed the outdoors and working in his garden.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Military Rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Rev. James Ecklund will officiate. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
