|George A. Gregg, Sr., 77, of Galesburg, Illinois, passed away on Friday March 23, 2012 at 5:05 PM at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
George was born on November 25, 1934 in Galesburg, Illinois the son of Frank and Mable (Gates) Gregg. He married Phyllis Mason on October 31, 1953 in East Galesburg, Illinois. She preceded him in death on February 28, 1988.
Surviving are his two daughters, Debra (Bob) Cramer of Knoxville, Illinois and Dorothy Lair of Monmouth, Illinois, one son Steven (Jennifer) Gregg of Galesburg, Illinois. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, wife, son George Gregg Jr., a special friend he shared 20 years with, Marian Bush, one brother and three sisters.
George retired from the railroad after over 30 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. When he couldn't be in the outdoors, he enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. Milton Marquith will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Per his request cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral service. Inurnment will be held in the Knoxville Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the East Galesburg Community Chapel.
