Cox, Mary I.
Mary I. Cox, 64, of Galesburg, died at 3:23 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

She was born May 3, 1948 in Fresnillo Zacatecas, Mexico the daughter of Sabino and Anselma Ibarra Martinez. She married Stephen Cox in Galesburg.

She is survived by three sons, David Cox and Matthew Cox, both of Galesburg and George (and Jennifer) Cox of Palatine, Ill.; her mother, Anselma Martinez of Monmouth, Ill.; nine grandchildren; a brother, John (and Shirley) Martinez of Oquawka, Ill.; four sisters, Toni (and Karl) Mertz of Galesburg, Rose Miller of Galva, Ill., Imelda Allen of Galesburg, and Susie Martinez of Monmouth; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father on January 12, 1961 and a brother and a sister, shortly after their births.

Mary had worked at Maytag for six years, Burlington Northern Railroad for five years, and was a nurse's aide for several area nursing homes, including Seminary Manor.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Monmouth. She attended Immaculate Conception School and Monmouth High School.

Mary's main focus in life was her sons and grandchildren. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her family. She loved life and loved to dance, play her music, and cooking.
One thing to remember about Mary is that she was a selfless person and very humble. She always put others before herself. Her sons were her world. She's now our guardian angel looking down on her family. She will be so missed, but forever in our hearts.

Graveside memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2013 in St. Mary's Cemetery, Monmouth. Rev. Bob Wakefield will officiate. A memorial visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to the family.
