|A. George Sierra age 78 of 108 S. Union St. Wataga, Ill. passed away at 7:25 PM Saturday, April 3, 2010 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born February 4, 1932 in Galesburg, Ill. the son of Casimero Sierra and Tomasa Garcia Sierra Galvan. He married Betty Jean Remaly on August 13, 1963 in Colorado Springs, Co.
Surviving are his wife Betty; three sisters, Mary Ambriz of Rock Falls, Ill, Pauline (Edmund) Sandoval of East Moline, Ill, and Julie and Ray Cervantez of Galesburg and many loving nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step father Eulalio Galvan, who raised him with his mother, and four sisters.
He lived in Galesburg area and was a meat cutter for 32 years at the Western Zero Locker in Galesburg and Giants Foods in Galesburg and Monmouth, Ill. After retirement, he was currently working for Midstate Manufacturing in Galesburg.
He volunteered and proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1952-1954 in Norfolk VA and Germany. George was a member of the American Legion Post #285. He enjoyed gardening, farming, leather work, hunting, playing the harmonica, the guitar, cooking, fishing and dancing.
Services are scheduled for 4 PM Friday April 9, 2010 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel with Rev. Jon Sibley officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 PM Friday at the chapel. Military honors will be conducted by the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285. Cremation will be conducted.
