|Gennaro "Jerry" Pandolfo, 87, of Abingdon died at 4:00 am Thursday, April 8, 2010 at the Care Center of Abingdon.
He was born on October 29, 1922 in Sant' Arsenio, Italy to Luigi Pandolfo and Rosaria Aromando. He married Mary G. Rescinito on September 1, 1948 in Sant' Arsenio, Italy. She preceded him in death on February 11, 2003. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother Angelo Pandolfo and one sister Maria Pandolfo.
Jerry is survived by one daughter, Rosaria Ayers of Abingdon; one sister, Antonietta Pandolfo of Sant' Arsenio, Italy and several nieces and nephews.
He grew up in Italy and graduated from mechanical engineering school. He later served in the Italian Army. After moving to America in 1949, he worked at the Abingdon Pottery for ten years and also at the same time worked at Mac's Service in Abingdon as a mechanic for six years. He later worked for the Randell GMC Bus and Diesel Service in Galesburg as the shop foreman until retiring in 1987.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. His hobbies included gardening, traveling, hunting and fishing. He was well known as a repairman and tinkerer and he could fix most anything presented to him.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am Monday, April 12, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abingdon. Father Joseph Presley will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm Sunday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel followed by the praying of the rosary.
