|Mary Jean Litchfield, 80, of Rio, IL, died Wednesday April 7, 2010 in her home. Services are 10:30 AM Tuesday at the Rio Presbyterian Church in Rio, Illinois. Burial is in the Oaklawn Memorial Gardens cemetery, Galesburg. Visitation is from 5-8 PM Monday at Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Alpha where memorials may be left to the Rio Presbyterian Church, Tri-County Ambulance, Rio Fire Dept or ROWVA Band Booster Club. She was born June 23, 1929 in North Henderson, IL, to Clarence and Mollie Henderson Koons. Mary Jean graduated from Alexis High School and attended Illinois State University. On July 22, 1951 she was united in marriage to Royal G. Litchfield in North Henderson . He died in 1980.
Mary Jean was a homemaker and was employed as a secretary for the Alexis school district and the Alexis Telephone Company. She had a passion and love for music. She was a church organist in the area for many years having played at the Rio Presbyterian Church, the North Henderson Methodist Church and the St. John's Catholic Church in Woodhull. For many years she taught organ and piano to area students and played for hundreds of weddings, funerals and special occasions throughout the years.
Her memberships include the North Henderson Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star where she was a past Worthy Matron, the Bethel White Shrine of Jerusalem where she was past Worthy High Priestess and was District 15 President of the Federated Women's Club.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law Kevin and Delaine Litchfield of Rio, 2 granddaughters, Kimberly Jean and Kelsey Kay Litchfield both of Rio, a sister, Donna Bradshaw-Bainbridge and her husband Ross of Williamsburg, VA and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her parents, husband and son Steven preceded her in death.
