|Gary R. Tucker, 67, 196 N. Chambers St., Galesburg, died at 7 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010 in Heartland Health Care Center.
He was born January 31, 1943 in Oquawka, Ill., the son of Rudolph Lowell and Elnora Widener Tucker. He married Karen K. Henry.
He is survived by his mother, Elnora Tucker of Galesburg, his companion of 23 years, Sherrill Cox, two sons, Eric Lowell Tucker and Rudy Tucker, both of Oquawka, five grandchildren, a brother, Bruce L. Tucker of Galesburg, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, twin daughters, Tina and Gina, and a brother, Bill Tucker.
Gary worked for the City of Galesburg in the water department and then worked for Fones Roofing. Later, he and his brother were co owners of Tucker Roofing and Drywall. Most recently, he was a truck driver for Roadway Trucking Company, retiring in 2008.
He graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1961 and attended Brown University in Davenport, Iowa, where he was a history major. Gary was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Monmouth, Ill. He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, landscaping, and investing in real estate.
Gary served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He received numerous medals, including one for bravery.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2010 Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Military Rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Rev. Kirk Kendall will officiate. Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Oquawka Cemetery.
