|Eugene K. Hoffman, 75, 311 E. Simmons St., Galesburg, formerly of Monmouth, Ill., died at 6:50 a.m., Saturday, April 10, 2010 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
He was born December 15, 1934 in Preble, Ind., the son of Victor and Pauline Bieberich Hoffman. He married Maria Jensen in Denmark.
He is survived by four daughters, Susan (and Roger) Blackman of Monmouth, Ill., Vibeke (and Doug) Larson of Morton, Ill., Leila Hoffman of Readyville, Tenn., and Heidi Hoffman, of Cleveland, Ohio, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and two brothers, Gilbert (and Florence) Hoffman of Hoagland, Ind. and Irvin (and Carolyn) Hoffman of Monroeville, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Gene worked at National Dairy in Glenview, Ill. for five years and then worked at Gates Rubber Company in Galesburg for 28 years. He retired in 1996.
He was raised in Indiana, where he graduated from Decatur High School in 1952. He attended Concordia College in Fort Wayne, Ind. He later moved to Monmouth, Ill., where he lived until moving to Galesburg in 2004. He was a member of First Lutheran Church of Galesburg.
Gene especially enjoyed dairy farming, showing cattle, and being outdoors. He was often seen walking around town with his beloved dog and companion, Kei.
He served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959 and was stationed in Germany. He was a member of the American Legion.
Cremation will be accorded. Celebration of Life will be 3 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 2010 at The Kensington Ballroom. Rev. Paul Johnson and the family will participate. A living memorial will be established at his daughter's home.
