|Dorrance "Pete" G. Yelm, 82, of 1218 S. Kellogg St. Galesburg, Ill died at 1:30 PM Monday April 12, 2010 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born May 21, 1927 in Victoria, Ill the son of Clyde Anderson and Golda Lumberry Yelm. He married Bonnie Tucker on December 29, 1945 in Galesburg, Ill.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bonnie; three daughters Margie J. (Mike) Johnson, Peggy Ann Hunt and Kate (James) Reynolds all of Galesburg; two brothers Merle "Ed" Yelm of Williamsfield, Ill and William C. "Bill" Yelm of Percy, Ill; three sisters Ellen "Ilene" Daniels and Delorse "Bea" J. Heflin both of Williamsfield and Lois M. (Jack) Stodgel of Galesburg; eight grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, three step grandchildren, four step great grandchildren, a great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a son Thomas W. Tucker, a daughter Doris Strom and his parents.
He served in the US Army for 7 months in 1945 during WWII.
Pete worked as a laborer for Butler Manufacturing for over 35 years, retiring in 1987. Later he enjoyed working in his woodworking shop, making crosses for friends and family. He also enjoyed tilling and planting the garden, walking at the mall and visiting and "Taco Tuesdays" with friends. He graduated from Williamsfield High school in 1945. He was a member and very active within the First Church of God.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Dennis McQuown will officiate. Visitation will be 9:30-11:00 AM Thursday at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
