|Mildred C. Hummell, 93, of Abingdon died at 1:45 am Saturday, April 17, 2010 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
She was born on June 30, 1916 in Galesburg to Lemuel J. and Mary A. (Lagergren) Cole. She married Paul E. Hummell on August 15, 1940 in London Mills. He preceded her in death on September 3, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Helen in infancy and Marie Pettingill.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Rosemary (and Brad Troyer) Varnold of Galesburg; two grandchildren, Jason Thurman and Jennifer (and John) Crowner; 4 great-grandchildren, twins Jason and Vasin Thurman, Madison Mancil and Jenna Marie Crowner.
She attended Brown's Business College and worked in several offices in Galesburg and Texas. She was a homemaker and had lived in Abingdon most of her adult life. She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Galesburg and was an active in the Shining Vespers Women's Circle and Hilltoppers. She had also served as a Sunday school teacher for many years, was a past deaconess and served on the Comfort & Care Committee.
Her hobbies included making hotpads, which she would send to the Ukraine every year. She also enjoyed doing oil paintings.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Bethel Baptist Church in Galesburg. Rev. Kirk Kendall will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Galesburg. Visitation will held from 9:30 am until 11:00 am Wednesday at the church.
