|Dorothy V. Bland, 97, 734 E. Grove St., Galesburg, died at 9:58 a.m. Sunday, April 18, 2010 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born February 19, 1913 in Monmouth, Ill., the daughter of Albert James and Mary Ann Hartman Poiset. She married Kenneth W. Bland on January 30, 1934 in Monmouth. He preceded her in death on November 13, 1996.
She is survived by her daughter, Rita Bland of Galesburg, two grandsons, Kenneth Black of Galesburg and Douglas (and Becky) Black of Kewanee, Ill., three sisters, Pauline Larson of Santa Monica, Calif., Evelyn Callis of Sun City, Calif., and Charlene Williams of Perris, Calif., many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and her beloved dog, Sammy. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence Poiset and Harold Poiset and a sister, Irene Strum Williams.
Dorothy worked as a seamstress in the interior decorator business. She worked for Brouillettes, Thompson Interiors, and The Virginian. She also wove rag rugs and enjoyed crafting.
She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 Auxiliary, and O.A.K.S.
Family will receive friends 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Private family services will be conducted with burial later in East Linwood Cemetery.
