|Roberta Anne Gorham, 93, formerly of Paradise Acres, Lake Bracken died at 5:57 a.m., Monday, March 29, 2010.
She was born January 26, 1917 in Peoria, Ill., the daughter of William Louis and Alice Sperry Short. She married Blaine Gorham on December 26, 1940 in Galesburg. He survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Mike (and Mary) Gorham of Denver, Colo., Bill (and Leeann) Gorham of Montana, and Peter (and Judy) Gorham of Galesburg, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a sister, Phyllis (and Hugh) Arnold of Greeley, Colo. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Roberta was a teacher in Knox County and Vermont, Ill. She was also co-owner of Blaine Gorham Carpet for 40 years, retiring in 1980. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1934 and from Knox College in 1938.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Hawthorne Club, Knox College 50 Year Club, and the League of Women Voters. Roberta enjoyed reading, writing poetry, music, fishing, traveling, and cooking. Family was always a top priority for her.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 9, 2010 in First Presbyterian Church. Rev. David Parker will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
