|Mr. Charles E. "Gene" Krause died April 22, 2010. He was born August 13, 1929, the son of Charles F. and Edith Schadel Krause of Sun Prairie, Wis. He married Shirley Chisman on June 16, 1951 in Ottumwa, Iowa.
Surviving is his wife, two sons, Charles F. "Rick" Krause of Highland Park, IL, and Paul (and Charlotta) Krause of Montgomery, IL, a daughter, Karen (and Michael) Carrigan of Decatur, IL, four grandchildren and one step grandson.
He graduated from Sun Prairie High School in Sun Prairie, Wis. and Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. He followed up with graduate work at the University of Iowa. He taught high school English and Dramatics at Radcliffe, Iowa, Mt. Vernon, Iowa and was a long-time teacher of those subjects in Galesburg District #205.
He was a member of Kiwanis and Knox County Retired Teacher's Association, and an honorary member of the Knox College Fifty Year Club. He was a volunteer, teaching the Rules of the Road class for many years for the State of Illinois. He was past president of Galesburg Retired Teachers and was on the Newman School Board. He also was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Cremation will be accorded and a private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
