|James Graham Stewart, Jr. 78, of Monmouth died at 11:10 P.M. Saturday, April 9, 2011 at his home.
He was born January 23, 1933 in Monmouth, IL the son of James G. and Dorothy M. (Switzer) Stewart. He was raised and educated in Stronghurst, IL and Newport Beach, CA.
Jim married Barbara Ann Collins in Monmouth in Feb. 23, 1954 and she survives.
He attended the American Barber College in Pasadena, Ca. and graduated in 1954. He has been a barber by trade since 1955. Jim loved watching old movies and attending auctions and flea markets.
Jim was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War serving as a rifleman with Co. D and Co. B, 32nd Inf., 7th Division earning the Combat Infantry Badge. He fought in the battles at "Pork Chop Hill," "Old Baldy," and several others. He was a member of the Monmouth American Legion and the Monmouth VFW.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Tammy (Larry) Inman of Monmouth; three sons, Jim (Karen) Stewart of Ringgold, GA., John Stewart of Monmouth and Glenn (Victoria) Stewart of El Paso, TX; 4 granddaughters, Molly, Valerie, Emma and Marie; 4 grandsons, Gene, Glenn Jr, Kevin and Johnny; one great grandson, Brodie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, William L. Stewart.
Graveside services with military honors will be 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, April 12, 2011 in Biggsville Cemetery with Rev. John Irwin of the Heritage Presbyterian Church officiating. Friends may call Tuesday at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth until 1:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
