Wehrwein, David
David J. Wehrwein, 78, of Lake Bracken, Galesburg, died at 5 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2011 at home.

He was born August 7, 1932 in Capron, Ill., the son of Carl and Sophia Altergott Wehrwein, Sr. He married Joanne Blackledge on January 25, 1958 in Harvard, Ill.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joanne; a son, Randy Wehrwein of Rockford, Ill.; two daughters, Sue (and Steve) Baker of Galesburg and Tammi (and Tom) Alexander of Lakeland, Fla.; four grandchildren, Stef and Sara Baker and Tye and Tayla Alexander; two step grandchildren, Crystal (and Shawn Taflinger) Casteel and Andrew (and Hannah) Baker; three brothers, Carl Wehrwein, Jr. of Janesville, Wis., Christ (and Vivian) Wehrwein of Manitowish Waters, Wis., and Richard (and Doris) Wehrwein of Sharon, Wis.; and a sister, Dorothy (and Bob) Wiedmer of Janesville, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Rick David Wehrwein and Scott Wehrwein; a brother, Howard; and two sisters, Sophia and Lydia.

David was educated in Wisconsin and graduated from Sharon High School in 1950. He had lived in Galesburg for 30 years. He was an over the road truck driver for the Maytag Corporation for 35 years, retiring January 1, 1992.

He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. David enjoyed fishing and hunting and watching Atlanta Braves and Chicago Bears games. While living in Sharon, he was a volunteer rescue/fireman for many years.

David served in the United States Air Force for four years and was stationed in Germany.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2011 in Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Rev. Daniel Smith will officiate. Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the church. After the funeral, military rites will be provided by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 at the church. Cremation will be accorded following the service. Memorials may be made to the Galesburg Rescue Mission. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service of Galesburg is in charge of arrangements.
